Did you know that the origins of Easter are to be found in European traditions? What we now know as “Easter” comes from a pagan character called “Eastre” or “Eoster” who was the goddess of spring for the Saxons and the festival of Eastre was celebrated during the spring equinox in Northern Europe.

The rabbit was the goddess Eastre’s earthly symbol and also known as a fertility symbol.

Today, Easter is just about totally a commercial only zone with the focus on eggs (fertility) and bunny rabbits.

For Christians, and because of these pagan origins, many churches like to refer to Easter Sunday as “Resurrection Sunday” so that more focus goes to Christ and less on the pagan origins.
